Covid-19: Delta variant has entered Ghanaian community – Information Ministry

Government has revealed that the country has recorded its first-ever Delta Variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus within its borders.

In a press release dated Friday, the Information Ministry said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed that the undisclosed community reported its cases at 10 am on Friday, July 2.

According to the Information Ministry, the relevant agencies are taking the necessary steps to ensure that spread is contained. It also assured that the affected persons are in good health and have been admitted to the health facilities.

Meanwhile, members of the general public have been advised to strictly adhere to the safety Covid-19 protocols set up by government.

Also, the Service has indicated its outfit will, on Sunday, July 4, provide further information on the matter to the general public.

In June, the Ghana Health Service revealed that it had detected six Delta Variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus from all samples taken between April and June 2021 at the Kotoka International Airport.

But the new variant had not permeated into the Ghanaian community.

Meanwhile, the Service has also assured the public the AstraZeneca vaccines and Sputnik V vaccines procured by the government are effective to combat the new strain of the virus.
