Comprehensive wrap up of Women’s Special Competition: Ampem Darkoa inflict defeat on Northern Ladies, Kumasi Sports Academy shock Supreme Ladies as Mercy Tagor’s Halifax Ladies suffer defeat

Ghana women’s football specialist, Ayishatu Ali Zakaria brings our readers a comprehensive wrap up of the matchday one of the Normalisation Committee’s Special Women’s Competition.

The competition, meant to keep players and female clubs active for an official resumption of competitive football activities in the country, saw a lot of action on Saturday.

The action continued on Sunday at the various centres as football advocates were served with impressive performances.

There was a local derby in Group Aas Premier League giants Fabulous Ladies welcomed Ashtown Ladies to the Wesley College Park.

The highly anticipated encounter ended stalemate but spectators who trooped to the venue enjoyed themselves despite heavy downpour as both sides exhibited fantastic display.

At the Prempeh College Park, the story was different as Supreme Ladies were defeated 3-2 by Kumasi Sports Academy.

Supreme Ladies conceded the first goal after Acheampong El Shaddai out the academy side ahead in the 11th minute. Sandra Atinga extended their lead on the stroke of half time.

However, Supreme Ladies responded quickly on the 50th minute mark when Felicity Asante scored from close range but their celebration was cut short when they conceded a penalty in the 57th minute.

Acheampong El Shaddai stepped up to score her second of the match before Tracy Twum reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the in the 70th minute.

In Group B, Pearlpia Ladies picked their first maximum points as they inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Prisons Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium thanks to a brace from Black Maidens star Safia Abdul Rahaman.

Prisons Ladies got a consolation couresy Edith Sasako.

In the other game, ths most successful Premier League side, Ampem Darkoa Ladies got off to a flying start in the competition against Northern Ladies at the Valley View Park after budding Black Queens star Grace Asantewaa put them ahead in the 20th minute.

Ophelia Amponsah made it 2-0 before Haruna Zeinab grabbed a consolation for Northern Ladies at the death of the match.

In Group C, coach Yusif Basigi and his girls were pipped 2-1 by Ladystrikers at the Robert Mensah Park.

Hasaacas Ladies got a consolation through Perpetual Agyekum after Gladys Amfobea and Gifty Addai Blake had shot Ladystrikers up by 2-0. Black Queens duo Linda Eshun and Janet Egyir featured featured for the Sekondi-based outfit.

In the last match of the group at the UEW Ajumako Park, Black Princesses defender Linda Amoako broke the virginity for Soccer Intellectuals in the 27th minute but Elizabeth Owusu rescued a point for Sea Lions through a 50th minute penalty kick.

Lastly in Group D, Immigration Ladies proved too strong for Samaria Ladies at the St. Thomas Aquinas Park.

Samaria Ladies dominated in all departments of the game in the first half scoring two goals courtesy their captain, Leticia Adjei.

But Immigration Ladies came out all-guns blazing in the second half and deservedly got a consolation in the 57th through Faustina Kyeremeh.

Black Princesses assistant coach, Dora Zutah, Fomer Black Queens Captain Adwoa Bayor, Rumanatu Tahiru and Normalisation Committee member, lawyer Naa Odofoley Nortey were among the spectators at the ground.

In the final group game, Mercy Tagoe’s Halifax Ladies were put to the sword by Police Ladies at the Teshie MATS Park.

Joanitta Aguadze’s 15th minute goal was enough for Police Ladies to pick maximum points from the game.
