COCOBOD to construct $60m cocoa processing factory

The construction work on the $60 million cocoa processing factory at Sefwi – Wiawso in the Western Region is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2019, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has announced.

He disclosed this after the COCOBOD signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the China Africa Development Fund that is going to finance the construction of the factory.

Mr Aidoo told journalist after the signing ceremony that : “This signing ceremony is to give meaning to the cocoa processing factory that is to take place at Sefwi – Wiawso to be implemented by Ghana COCOBOD in a public-private-partnership involving the China International Development Corporation Agency , China Development Bank and Sino Africa.”

The factory is expected process about 40,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans for export to the Chinese market.
