CHELSEA HERE CHELSEA THERE: GUEHI BEATEN IN PLAY-OFF FINAL AND BABA LIFTS GREEK CUP

Date:

Marc Guehi was a beaten Championship play-off finalist on Saturday as Swansea lost 2-0 to Brentford at Wembley.

Guehi played the full game on the left side of a back three with nearly 12,000 supporters present at the national stadium to see which team would join Norwich City and Watford in the Premier League next season.

Brentford, who beat Swansea’s in last season Championship play-off semi-finals in which Guehi also featured, started the better and went ahead in the 10th minute through Ivan Toney’s 33rd goal of the season. He converted from the penalty spot after Freddie Woodman in the Swans goal fouled Bryan Mbeumo.

The Bees doubled their advantage through Emiliano Marcondes on 20 minutes and there was no route back for Swansea, who created little and were reduced to 10 men for the final half-hour. Brentford saw the game out comfortably and will be the 50th different team to play in the Premier League, having last been in England’s top flight 74 years ago.

Despite the defeat it’s been another impressive season in England’s second tier for Guehi, who has racked up 45 appearances and was man of the match in both legs of the play-off semi-final success over Barnsley.

At the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Baba Rahman helped PAOK win the Greek Cup with a 2-1 victory over Olympiacos.

The Ghanaian played all but the closing seconds of a dramatic final played behind closed doors. PAOK led through a first-half penalty but that was cancelled out early in the second period.

There were chances at both ends before Michael Krmencik netted a 90th-minute winner to earn PAOK an eighth Greek Cup triumph.

Baba, who played at left wing-back, was brought off in injury time to help run down the clock. He finishes his loan with 17 appearances to his name and now a winner’s medal, having started the season recovering from a serious injury and featuring occasionally for our development squad.
