Cellulant receives enhanced PSP licence from the Bank of Ghana to launch Tingg

Date:

Pan-African fintech company, Cellulant has been granted an enhanced Payment Service Provider (PSP) licence from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to introduce its digital payments solution for businesses, Tingg, in the country. This makes Cellulant one of the top Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSP) to provide physical e-payment devices, merchant acquiring, and agency banking solutions in the country.

The move followed on the heels of the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) issuing an approval two weeks ago in principle to Cellulant Corporation to operate as a Payment Solution Service Provider in the country. Before that, the fintech also unveiled received a similar license from the central bank of Zambia in July.

“We believe that Ghana is fast becoming a hub for fintech in Africa,” said Cellulant Ghana Country Manager Eric Kortey. “Being licensed by the Bank of Ghana means a lot to the growth of our industry and opens doors to increased security and confidence in digital payments systems.”

Buoyed by this significant milestone which permits the fintech company to offer physical e-payment devices, merchant acquiring, agency banking solutions, payment terminal management and terminal aggregator management systems, Cellulant is eyeing Ghana’s mobile money market with its single digital payments platform – named Tingg.

Over 100 merchants have already begun using Tingg to collect money digitally from their customers across Ghana, according to Cellulant. Tingg makes it easy to collect and make payments across multiple payment methods in different currencies, with the best customer experience for any business looking to digitise their payments.

Founded in 2002, Cellulant provides a single digital payments platform that runs an ecosystem of consumers, retailers, merchants, banks, mobile network operators, Governments, and International Development Partners. Today, Cellulant’s payments platform hosts 154 payment options across 34 countries; and is connected to 220M consumers on a single inclusive network allowing for interoperability that has eluded numerous players in the payments space.
