Burkina Faso declares curfew in Loroum province after 4 killed in attack

Date:

At least four people were killed in the attack by unidentified gunmen Saturday in Samboulga village, northern Loroum province of Burkina Faso, local source on Sunday told Xinhua over phone.

“Unidentified gunmen on Saturday attacked Samboulga village (about 230 km north to the capital Ouagadougou), leaving at least 4 dead,” local elected representative on Sunday told Xinhua.

A military officer also confirmed the attack without going into further details, whereas Burkina Faso authorities declared curfew on Loroum province in a release of which Xinhua received a copy Sunday in the capital Ouagadougou.

The curfew will enter into force from October 15 to November 14, prohibiting any circulation of persons and vehicles from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., except for ambulances.

Over recent days, Loroum province has seen an upsurge of terrorist attacks that claimed many lives, causing a massive flight of populations to other areas considered safer.

Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been facing a spate of terrorist attacks that killed about 500 people.
