The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, reportedly snapped at the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, over the weekend, according to claims debunked by the Greater Accra Regional Coordination Council (GARCC).
In a widely shared video at the University of Ghana’s 2023 Green Ghana Day Celebration, the president is seen furiously ordering the Greater Accra Regional Minister to instruct a chief to get up and respect the National Anthem.

But in response, the GARCC noted that the President had been asked to advise invited guests who were seated while the National Anthem was playing to get up from their seats, not to vent his rage at the Regional Minister.
We feel obligated to clear up any misunderstandings resulting from this clip since, regrettably, some people have erroneously assumed that the President was expressing rage at the Greater Accra Regional Minister in the video.
According to the GARCC, “On the contrary, the President was asking the Regional Minister to take fast action over certain invited guests who opted to remain seated in defiance of the National Anthem that was played before the event began. The National Anthem had everyone, including the President, standing in patriotic awe.
The GARCC urged the public “and all well-meaning persons to disregard the contemptuous spin to the video which appears crafted to create unwarranted public disaffection”
