Aisha Buhari Cup: “We are in a team-building process” – Coach Mercy Tagoe after South Africa’s defeat

Date:

Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, the Head Coach of the Black Queens has said she is building a formidable team from the Aisha Buhari Cup as Ghana prepares for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers.

Ghana suffered a 3-0 heavy defeat to South Africa in her first Group A match and the coach said, the local players invited were to have international exposure and experience to toughen them in subsequent matches.

The former Black Queens player said, “We know we are doing a team building. I brought lots of local players who have no experience and they need these international matches to have that experience and exposure to toughen them.

“This is to have a formidable team with a blend with the foreign-based players and we are on course.”

Ahead of Ghana’s second game against Cameroon on Monday, September 20, the coach said the players have been psyched after Bayana Bayana’s defeat and are poised for victory.

She said, “We continued with our training after the huge defeat to South Africa and I have been able to psyche the players and we are ready for Cameroon on Monday.
“Everyone is calm in camp, we have done our recovery training and everything is in place for the game.”

Coach Tagoe-Quarcoo hinted she will make changes in her starting lineup against Cameroon adding that, “the second game will be a different game approach.”

The Aisha Buhari Cup is an invitational tourney and a preparatory platform for Ghana ahead of the AWCON qualifiers against Nigeria in a fortnight.
