Abudus, Andanis can’t enskin chiefs … as Mediation Committee imposes ban

Date:

The eminent chiefs’ mediation committee has imposed a ban on both regents of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani and the Bolin-Lana Abdulai Mahammudu from enskining chiefs.

A delegation, led by Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of National Security, conveyed this to the regents on Sunday, emphasising that “henceforth none of you should enskin anyone as a chief until the funerals of the overlords are completed”.

Other members of the delegation were the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Mr Kofi Dzamesi and the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed.

The ban follows speculations that both regents were preparing to enskin certain persons to vacant positions in the Dagbon traditional area.

According to the delegation, the installation of chiefs by the regents was clear violation of the road map reached by both royal gates.

The eminent chiefs’ mediation committee in November drafted a road map with the view to help bring lasting solution to the Dagbon protracted chieftaincy crisis.

Representatives of both the Abudus and Andanis had signed to it and it was subsequently presented to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

Mr Kan Dapaah, impressed upon the regents not to engage in any activity that would hinder the progress of peace.

He has, therefore, pleaded to them to follow strictly the tenets of the road map towards the resolution of the crisis.

Mr. Kan Dapaah said government was very committed to help bring an end to the chieftaincy conflict which had impeded development of the area.

For his part, Mr Saeed assured that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) would liaise with the stakeholders to try to resolve any outstanding issues.

He thereby appealed to both regents to advise their sympathisers and followers to respect the road map to ensure that peace and stability return to the traditional area.

Mr. Saeed said the process had gone far and that it was imperative to support the eminent chiefs to realise the goals of the road map.

The delegation also held meetings with the Yoo-Na Mahammed Andani at Savelugu and other stakeholders.
