Ghanaian forward Patrick Agyemang scores on international debut for USA

Date:

Patrick Agyemang scored his first international goal for the United States in a friendly against Venezuela on Saturday evening in Miami.

The US-born Ghanaian was handed his first invite by former Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino as the Argentine builds a strong team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The team dominated by players from the Major League Soccer have been camping this January for the games against Venezuela and Costa Rica.

Agyemang impressed Pochettino with his dazzling performance in the 2024 MLS, where he scored 10 goals and delivered five assists in 36 games.

In his first game for USA, Agyemang earned his side an early penalty which was missed by Matko Miljevic before Jack McGlynn scored a belter in the 37th minute to open the scoring.

Just before half time, Agyemang blindsided his marker, picking the ball outside the box and powering his way into the 18 yard before firing with his left foot.

Miljevic made up for his missed penalty by adding the third for the United States after the break before the visitors pulled one back late in the game.

Agyemang, who plays for Charlotte FC in the MLS, remains eligible to represent Ghana at senior level despite featuring in the friendly against Venezuela.
