Respite for Hearts as they edge Bechem United to secure first win of the season

Date:

Accra Hearts of Oak won their first game of the season, defeating Bechem United 2-0 in match week three of the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League. Ransford Mensah and Hamza Issah scored in the second half to give the Phobians a comfortable win against the Hunters in a thrilling match at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Hearts of Oak’s three points take them off the bottom of the table, putting them in 10th place, while Bechem United falls to 12th after failing to win any of their games thus far.
There was pressure on Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara heading into the Bechem clash, and the intensity of the first half demonstrated how anxious the players were.
It was a cagey affair in the first half with few clear-cut chances created by both sides, but it was Hearts of Oak that looked more likely to take the lead.
The Phobians did take the lead in the 52nd minute when new signing Mensah curled in a beautiful free-kick from 25 yards to the delight of the home fans.
It was a massive respite for the Phobians to score their first goal of the season as they began to dominate affairs while the opponents struggled to make any incursions.
sah, who was the Hearts of Oak top scorer for last season, was off the mark once again with another sublime header in the 75th minute of the game.
Hearts of Oak held on to secure all three points at the end of the game and would now turn focus to their next match against Nations FC.
