Korle Klottey NCCE inaugurates Inter-Party Dialogue Committee ahead of December polls

Date:

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Korle Klottey, has inaugurated a 40-member Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) to promote peace in the municipality ahead of the 2024 elections.

Efua Kitson-Amoah, Assistant Electoral Officer, Korle Klottey, Nii Kwabena Bonne V, Osu Alata Mantse and Vice President of Osu Traditional Council, and Amanda Sefakor Tutu were selected as Chair, Vice-Chairman and Secretary respectively to spearhead the affairs of the Committee.

At the inauguration ceremony in Accra, Madam Gloria Amarkie Kudo, Deputy Regional Director, NCCE, Greater Accra Region, asked the Committee to educate the people about religious tolerance.

She said that religious intolerance could lead to violence if not addressed.

Madam Kudo also discussed vote buying and its consequences, directing the Committee to educate voters on the issue.

She said that vote buying hinders the country from electing the best candidates to sit at the decision-making table, emphasizing the need of ensuring that voters make their decisions free of inducements.

Nii Adjiri Sackey, Municipal Director, NCCE, Korle Klottey, expressed optimism that the committee’s formation would promote and sustain democracy and also imbue citizens with civic rights and duties.

He said the Committee would work as a proactive tool to promote peaceful elections and ensure political stability in the municipality and Ghana as whole.

Efua Kitson-Amoah, Assistant Electoral Officer, Korle Klottey and Chairperson of the Committee said the EC was committed to working to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.

Maxwell Nana Asamoah, Youth Organiser, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Korle Klottey, said the municipality had not witnessed any violence in the numerous elections conducted in the country since the constituents are peaceful.

He said that the elections would be free of violence if the EC and security services performed their duties right.
