NPP’s primary for president: Salam Mustapha calls for classy campaigning

Date:

Before the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary, Salam Mustapha, the party’s national youth organiser, has urged a more civilised approach to campaigning.

Ten candidates are fighting for the job, increasing the level of competition. As a result of the heated rhetoric, several candidates and their followers have turned to personal attacks against their opponents.

Yet Mustapha is adamant that, in order to prevail in the final election, the primary’s eventual victor would need the backing of the other nine contenders.

He has thus urged all candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaigns in a respectful manner, highlighting the need of continuing to have cordial ties even after the election is over.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show, Mustapha said: “The party has a concern because we want unity after the flagbearer election. A united party is the vehicle that will take you to the general election.”

“I don’t see how former President John Dramani Mahama can defeat the winner of the NPP primaries if the membership and leadership of the party remain united. There is no way we will lose an election.”

Mustapha further emphasized the importance of effectively managing any repercussions stemming from the internal primary.

He stated that the party’s ability to handle the aftermath adequately would contribute to a comfortable victory in the upcoming election.

With his call for respectful campaigning and unity within the party, Mustapha aims to foster an environment that will position the NPP favourably for success in both the primary and the general election.
