Nana Addo does not know alleged money launderer -Kow Essuman.

Date:

Kow Essuman, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Legal Addo’s Counsel, has disputed charges that the President knows a self-described “Finance Architect” Alistair Mathias, who was featured in an Aljazeera documentary.

Aljazeera unearthed devastating evidence of gold smuggling and money laundering syndicates in Zimbabwe in a four-part investigative documentary series, with Ghana implicated.

Undercover journalists acting as Chinese criminals hired Alistair Mathias, a self-described “Financial Architect” with experience orchestrating such syndicates.

Mathias admitted to carrying out similar scams in Ghana and claimed to be good friends with the country’s president, who he also claimed used to be his lawyer.

In response to this remark, President Akufo-Legal Addo’s Counsel branded Mathias’ claim as baseless and urged Ghanaians to disregard it.

According to him, the President has not been in private practise since 2000, and his attorney has never represented Mathias.

“The President has not been in private practice since 2000, neither has the President nor his law firm, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co, acted as lawyer for this Alistair Mathias or Guldrest. The President does not know this Mathias or Guldrest. Ignore the spurious allegations,” Ekow Essuman wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has denied any recollection of acting as a lawyer for Mathias or his company, while Mathias himself has denied ever being awarded any tender by the Ghanaian government or entering into any government contracts in any African country.
