Judges should prioritize cases involving senior lawyers – Chief Justice urges judges

Date:

The Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, has urged all trial court judges to prioritize cases of senior lawyers against those of junior lawyers.

The directive was contained in a circular dated March 22, 2022.

The Chief Justice insisted that prioritizing cases of senior lawyers is an age-old tradition that needed to be respected.

He argued that prioritizing cases of senior lawyers “affords the young lawyer the opportunity to learn from Seniors whom they would not ordinarily be exposed to; thus enriching the whole legal training experience beyond what is taught in Chambers and other places or work.”

The Chief Justice indicated that while this practice is expected to be the norm, it has been realized that many trial court judges do not observe it, hence the need to reiterate it.

“I would request all Trial Court Judges to strictly adhere to this age-old tradition and resort to invite applications from Seniors first,” the circular concluded.
