BECE: Accra Metropolitan Education Directorate to sensitise parents, pupils on school selection

Date:

The Accra Metropolitan Education Directorate is to engage parents and pupils in the Metropolis on the school selection process for candidates who just ended the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr Asare Boahen, Examinations Coordinator, Accra Metropolitan Education Directorate, told the Ghana News Agency that the sensitisation would be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, and Thursday, December 9, 2021.

He said the exercise would be held in the three sub metropolitans- Ablekuma South and Ashiedu Keteke on Wednesday and Okaikoi South on Thursday.

“We are doing this sensitisation exercise for a smooth process. This is because there have been slight changes in this year’s process in the number of schools to select from a single category and on TVET schools’ selection,” he said.

Mr Boahen said the new process demanded that parents signed and provided their phone numbers on the form.

He said also, there was only a single selection in Category A schools and that it was no longer compulsory for one to select a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) school.

There are 154 basic schools in the Accra Metropolitan Area – 101 private schools and 53 public schools.

A total number of 6,408 pupils who took part in the 2021 BECE in the metropolis are expected to participate in the school selection process.
