Chainsaw operator jailed 6 months for illegally felling trees in Kwamisa Forest

A Circuit Court in Offinso in the Ashanti Region, has sentenced a 32-year-old chainsaw operator to six months’ imprisonment in hard labour for illegally felling trees in the Kwamisa Forest Reserve.

The convict, Agyenim Boateng, who was arrested by officials of the Forestry Commission in the Offinso Municipality, was handed over to the police and arraigned on Monday, November 8, 2021.

He pleaded guilty to the offenses when he appeared in court.

The Court Presided over by His Lordship, Justice Fredrick Kwabena Twumasi, then jailed him for six months.

Offinso Municipal Director of the Forestry Commission, Kobina Baiden, warned that his outfit will be tough on persons engaging in such acts.

“My team got to the scene, and fortunately we managed to arrest him. We handed him over to the police and this morning we managed to send him to court to serve as a deterrent to others.”

“I entreat the youth especially to desist from engaging in such acts. The maximum sentence when caught is two years. This gentleman was fortunate and was given six months.”
