The Managing Director of Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, Mr. Farid Antar, has reiterated the bank’s commitment to supporting sports development in Ghana.
The Managing Director gave this assurance when Republic Bank presented GH¢200,000 to the national team – the Black Stars of Ghana – at a brief ceremony at the Minister of Youth and Sports’ office in Accra.
The presentation was in response to a call made by President Nana Akufo-Addo to Corporate Organisations in the country to support the Black Stars as they prepare to participate in the 2022 AFCON Tournament in Cameroon, as well as the qualifying series for the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar.

According to the Managing Director, Republic Bank is a major sponsor of sports in the Caribbean. Republic Bank has been supporting the leading sports in the Caribbean, which are Cricket and Athletics. The Managing Director added that in Ghana, football is the nation’s passion and continues to be a galvanising force that brings people together. He also noted that the COVID-19 pandemic affected people in many ways – including mental health, and that sport has the potential to lighten the people’s mood. “A win for the Black Stars is not only a win for country but also a source of joy and happiness for many,” he said.
The Managing Director assured the Minister of Youth and Sports of the bank’s continued support toward sports and youth development in Ghana. Republic Bank has supported Athletics development with a 3-year sponsorship of Basic and Senior High School athletics under the Ghana Education Service youth athletic festival from 2016 – 2019.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the team, Minister of Youth and Sports, Honourable Mustapha Ussif, thanked the Managing Director of Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC for their kind gesture. He promised to ensure that the money is put to its intended use – which is to support the Black Stars toward their preparation for the games.

Ashong; Managing Director Republic Boafo – a subsidiary of Republic Bank, Mrs. Evelyn Osei-Tutu; the Manager-Marketing and Communications, Mrs. Genevieve Aboney; and the CSRO, Mr. Kojo Awudey.
