Tema Lions Club plants trees in Tema West schools

The Tema Lions Club, an International Humanitarian Service Organisation, has planted 150 tree seedlings in two schools in the Tema West Municipality, with a call on pupils to cultivate the habit of planting trees to protect the environment.

The schools which participated in the exercise included; the Mount Zion Methodist School and the Tema West Municipal Assembly Junior High School in Tema Community Three and Sakumono respectively.

Mr Kissiedu Kwapong, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, advised the pupils on the need to safeguard the environment by planting more tree as it had proven to improve health and wellbeing.

He called on the pupils to ensure that new trees were always planted to replace those that were cut down, and said “when the last tree dies; the last man dies.”

Ms Baaba Hudson, a member of the Committee, whiles educating the pupils on the Lions Club, encouraged them to take active interest in keeping the environment clean and safe.

She indicated that the Lions Clubs International was the world’s biggest service club organization with a mission to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding.

Mr Kofi Amoah, Headmaster of the TWMA JHS and Ms Celestine Dadzie, Headmistress of the Mount Zion Methodist School, both thanked the Tema Lions Club for identifying their schools for the initiative and they promised to ensure that all the trees planted would receive adequate care to ultimately protect the environment.  

 The programme was carried out as part of the club’s Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change Awareness Programme in the country,
