Daily Devotional: 8th April “WALKING WITH GOD”

Date:

READ : Matthew 25:31-46

Jesus saith unto him, I am…the truth…” – John 14:6

The same Jesus whose last words were, “Go into the world and preach the Gospel,” is the same Jesus who said, “When I was hungry, you did not feed me. When I was sick you did not visit. When I was in prison, you never thought of me.”

Visiting prisoners is not the same as planting a church. However, it is a biblical variation. How quickly we become “Pharisees” filled with selfrighteousness when we are so sure we are doing the right thing. A deeper understanding of Jesus’ words will reveal what it means to walk with God.

When Jesus’ disciples were criticized for plucking and eating corn on the Sabbath day, He once again brought an exception and variation to the law. Jesus pointed out how David had eaten the shew bread with his followers. He then gave the Pharisees another principle: “The Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath” (Matthew 12:8).

This means that God is the creator of the rules and laws and He is higher than they are. Following God is more than following a couple of rules. If all we needed were rules, then we would no longer need God Himself. No particular rule, doctrine or principle is truth; Jesus Himself is the truth (John 14:6).

Perhaps we also have some old principles that we cherish. We think that by following these rules we will be following God. Following Jesus closely is our best chance of abiding in truth.
