Today on Artists corner, we have Vincent Mawunyo Kudjo Eworde. Known as Hommie in the Music scene.
This is what he has to say about himself. I am Ghanaian. My father hails from Nyagbo Agodome in the Volta region. Growing up I have also loved Music. I attended the Presbyterian Church. My mother was in the choir. I remember days when my mother would return from church and start singing songs. My father would harmonize alongside and I would just be seated enjoying the song.
EARLY DAYS
Back in Junior High School (here in Ghana), I was a force to reckon with. I was very good in school. I was the school prefect of my school(Tender care School ) at East Legon in Accra. My passion for music and the arts were very dominant. I use to sing a lot of Christian songs and worldly ones as well. I learned and rapped all the rap songs back in the day. I even did covers of the songs.
I also organized prayer services for my mates and for my household. In Senior high school it was a bit of the same thing. Just that I gradually lost hold of Christianity and the Spiritual things.
I attended Suhum Senior high school and later moved to Akim Swedru Senior high school. I studied Science and was hopeful of becoming a doctor one day. I personally composed about 70% of our school songs back then in Senior high. My passion for music was still burning more than ever.
THEN THINGS BECAME ROUGH
After school things got a bit rough for me and my family so I had to sell water by the roadside with my mum and get involved in a whole lot of things to get the family going. I would work a few jobs here and there.
I left home in pursuit of a music career. I later joined a lot of Music entertainment groups etc. I use to roll with the likes of Quata, Tinny, Sakordie (All circular Artists).
Sarkodie used to come to Quata’s studio where I later based. I was also at Shatta movement before Shatta Wale entered the scene. I was being directed and managed by Jay O, who is a music genius.
I raised a lot of guys in music and was an inspiration to many. Names like My own brother who goes by Eworde, Alpha banks, Lyrical Joe, Fago, Rho Baggio etc come to mind.
But life on the street was not an easy one. There were times I have to starve because there was no means of getting food. I remember sometimes I had to go and beg from the streets before eating.
But then in all of these I somehow had God on my mind. One day after recording the usual worldly song I heard my engineer Joe Bigbrain playing something on the keys and was led to compose a raggae Gospel song called change.
That is where I started my journey back to Christ.
MY JOURNEY BACK TO CHRIST
A friend introduced me to a Lighthouse Chapel International which was pastored by Bishop Edwin Morgan Ogoe. I remember I was once seated at his church and he kept saying , “whatever is in the world has its original version in the church. Real Happiness is in the Church” the music you are listening to or doing can be done in the church”
what is outside there is a facade “. It felt like he was talking to me. I was so touched by the sermon and decided to join fully.
It was not an easy one for me because I struggled with Masturbation and Fornication, but by the grace of God I was able to overcome. I joined the church fully and a friend introduced me to a group in the church known as De Troopers
Since meeting the group and joining church I have seen immense growth and improvement in my life. I got admission into Legon to offer Bsc. Administration because I was not able to keep up with the fees, but God through the word and the songs I write have been keeping me going and I never regret the decision of turning back to my father like the prodigal son.
THE GLORY
I am a shepherd now at my current church. although I have played a lot of other roles in church. I shepherd the dancing Stars now (A group of young people who dance to praise God).
Music is good and I am glad I am changing lives one life at a time. Back in those days I had plans of joining all sorts of things to gain fame but I thank God and my Bishop for coming in when they did.
Now I am sold out for Christ and there is nothing better out there for me
In the future I hope I fill stadiums and auditoriums for the Lord and lead many to him I want to stand at the Junction to hell and redirect people to the road to heaven.
My name is still Vincent Mawunyo kudjo Eworde a.k.a Hommie and I am born of God, son of God and humble servant of God. I live for him and nothing will change it so help me God.
