GES releases guidelines ahead of June 22 school reopening for SHSs

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) following the June 22 school reopening for final year students as well as form 2 Gold Track students in Senior high school (SHSs) has released guidelines to ensure the safety and well being of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

The Service guidelines form part of measures to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff and to also prevent an outbreak of the deadly novel coronavirus.

His Excellency Akufo-Addo in his first televised nation’s address on march 15 directed for the closure of all schools (public and private) effective Monday March 16 as part of safety measures to curb the novel coronavirus.

He, however, after consultation with teacher unions and relevant stakeholders agreed to reopen school to only final year students to enable them to complete the 2019/2020 academic year and prepare to sit for their exit examination.

The President in his eleventh address to the citizenry announced for schools to be reopen but with adequate measures to ensure there is not outbreak should students resume school.

As arranged by the Government of Ghana (GoG) final year students and form 2 Gold track students are expected to resume school on Monday, June 22 while 2020 BECE candidates report to school on June 29.

Meanwhile, final year students of all tertiary institutions resumed face to face academic work last Monday June 15.

President Akufo-Addo in his eleventh televised nation’s address assured to equip each student, teachers, and non-teaching staff with 3 washable reusable face mask, alcohol-based hand sanitizer among other COVID-19 preventive items.

Additionally, the government tasked the waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited to fumigate and disinfect all Senior high schools across the country.
