Fumigation of SHSs will improve academic performance

Date:

Madam Happy Tsifokor, Agortime-Ziope District Director of Education said the fumigation of Senior High Schools across the country would help improve the academic performance of students.

She said the exercise was important because it would set students free from bites of bedbugs and other insects and create a conducive environment for them to concentrate on studies.

The District Director of Education who was speaking to the media during a fumigation exercise by Zoomlion at Kpetoe Senior High School said some students were unable to concentrate during classes because of insect bites and sleeplessness at night in schools in the District.

She said the exercise had, therefore, come at the right time to give the needed enabling environment to schools for enhanced teaching and learning and was grateful to the Government, Ministry of Education, and Zoomlion.

Mr Ernest Vodzi, the Assistant Headmaster of Administration of the School also commended the authorities undertaking the exercise, stressing, it would provide the students with the needed peace of mind to study.

Mr Awoenam Pious Fiah, Assistant Headmaster, Academics of OLA Senior High School in Ho, also expressed gratitude to the Government, Ministry of Education, and Zoomlion for the exercise.

He said earlier fumigation exercises carried out by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the School and Zoomlion against the novel coronavirus before the closure of schools were helpful, adding,  “since then we have seen that the bedbugs issue has been going down.”

He, however appealed to government and other authorities concerned to ensure that the exercise was done end of every term to help eradicate bedbugs, rodents, and other insects from Senior High Schools.

Mr Peter Kwame Nambia, Assistant Headmaster of Administration, Awudome Senior High School also commended Government and Zoomlion for the intervention and prayed that the exercise was sustained.

Mr innocent Ephson Setordzi, the Senior House Father, Adaklu Senior High School did not hide his joy when the fumigation team got to the School and expressed appreciation to Government, Zoomlion, and Ministry of Education for the foresight.

He said the School was having challenges with the presence of bats and appealed to the government to help drive them away.

Staff of Zoomlion disinfected classrooms,  dormitories, administration blocks, libraries, laboratories, offices, assembly halls, and dining halls of SHSs in the Volta region as part of a nationwide exercise in collaboration with the Ministry of Education against bedbugs and to contain COVID-19.
