At least one traveler was severely injured, while many lost their valuables in a highway robbery attack on the Accra-Cape Coast highway on Thursday night, police have confirmed.
According to the central regional police spokesperson Irene Oppong, the incident took place at Gomoa Dominase 52.3 kilometers west of the capital.
The armed robbers blocked a section of the highway at Dominase, forcing passengers off their vehicles, where they were subjected to forced searches with their valuables, including undisclosed sums of money stolen.
“Information reached the Police Thursday night that an armed robbery attack was taking place at a section of the road near Gomoa Dominase. Police moved to the scene but could not meet the robbers,” the police spokesperson said on Friday.
In all, the police said the robbers attacked six vehicles, no one was killed, but one person who sustained injuries during the attack received treatment at the Awutu Beraku health center.
The police are yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident.
