Dodoo wins Japan Ambassador’s Judo Championship

Eleazar Dodoo, an experienced Judoka has won the Japan Ambassador’s Judo Championship held at the Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend.

Dodoo defeated fellow compatriot Godwin Gaiety in the finals of the 81kg category while Godwin Dadi and Lamber Faizuku came third and fourth respectively.

In the 73kg contest Rabbi Pambele clinched a tailored victory over Aziz Abisiri with Augustine Suzah and Francis Adadzi placing third and fourth respectively.

The Under 15 girls category was equally interesting with Evelyn Dzato triumphing over Ophelia Danso with Ramatu Sulley and Vania Mensah placing third and fourth respectively.

Alhassan Joseph came first in the 12 years boys category with a throw victory over Clinton Teye. The third position went to Prince Aware with Kwabena Twum Baah placing fourth. Tintom Amaria and Yaw Kelvin Boafo registered wins in the under 10 and 8 boys categories respectively.

Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh, President of the Ghana Judo Federation said that measures have been put in place to deal with the numerous technical challenges facing the association.

“We have realized some technical challenges in our national team, so come early next year we are going o organize a training programme for all referees, ”he said.

He implored all referees to sharpen their skills thereof and await that programme. He stressed that Judo is a way of life and a peaceful sport that can be employed in our daily lives.

His Excellency Tsutomu Himeno,  Japenese Ambassodor to Ghana in his speech at the two-day championship, expressed his happiness to witness the wonderful Judo community in Ghana.

He mentioned the need to show support and attention to martial arts since the sport is one of peace and control over the body and mind. “Together will like to have an even greater attention of the sport in future,” he stated.
