President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Eudora Hilda Quartey Koranteng and Dr Winfred Nii Okai Hammond as Ghana’s ambassadors to Italy and Egypt respectively.
At a short ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra yesterday, the two envoys took the oaths of Office and Secrecy, administered by President Akufo-Addo.
The President, afterwards, presented them with their Letters of Credentials.
In an address, President Akufo-Addo said he settled on the two because they were eminently fit to represent the country abroad.
“You go as the image of our nation. You are the face of Ghana in Italy and in Egypt,” he said and indicated that they had three key roles to play as ambassadors.
The first role, he said, was administrators of the offices they had been assigned to and entreated them to work with the professional Foreign Service officers there.
“Your duty is to bond with them and provide them the needed leadership. They are useful people to you. They are professional,” he said and urged them to take their advices in good faith.
The second role, the President pointed out, was their duty as the official diplomatic representatives of the country and entreated them to explore opportunities to deepen the cooperation between Ghana and the respective countries that they had been assigned.
The third role President Akufo-Addo entreated his envoys to play was to ensure that they take interest in the welfare of the Ghanaians in their assigned countries.
Mr Hammond, on his own behalf and on the behalf of his colleague, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work hard to deepen the relations between Ghana and the respective countries they had been assigned.
