There are a number of factories being constructed at different stages of completion across the country under the One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) project initiated by the Akufo-Addo government.

The Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Company Limited is the latest under the 1D1F programme ready for commercial production.

The 1D1F programme is expected to facilitate the creation of between 7,000 to 15,000 jobs per district, and between 1.5 million and 3.2 million nationwide by end of 2020 The National Coordinator of the One District One Factory (1D1F) Policy has disclosed that the Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Company Limited is ready for commissioning.

Gifty Ohene-Konadu said she was satisfied with the work done and commended the President for his commitment towards this project. The factory was the very first that President Akufo-Addo inaugurated at Ekumfi under the much-touted 1D1F policy.

When finally commissioned, the Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Company Limited will be the biggest fruits processing factory in West Africa.

The GNA reports that the fruits processing facility has the capacity to process 10 tons of fruits per hour. Mrs. Ohene-Konadu inspected the facility together with the MP for Ekumfi, Francis Ato Cudjoe and the District Chief Executive, Bright Bernard Grant.

They were taken through sorting, filtration and packaging, which are the three key processes in the production of fruits. The Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Company was started two years ago and was funded by the Exim Bank Ghana Limited.

Mrs. Ohene-Konadu said government is keen to ensure that the mistakes made with the Komenda Sugar factory are not repeated.

She assured that the necessary arrangements will be made to ensure that the Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Company is run successfully.

The facility is expected to cultivate more than 4,000 acres of pineapples in many communities in the district within the next five years.
