Amazon UK is reportedly offering partial refunds to Nintendo Switch owners affected by problems with the Joy-Con controllers. Some customers of the online retailer are saying that Amazon has given them some money back on their purchases, allowing them to pay for replacement controllers.

A report from Nintendo Life states that in some cases Amazon UK is offering £70 (the full price of a new Joy-Con controller set) or £45 towards the cost of new controllers. It’s unclear why there is a discrepancy and whether less severe technical issues with the Joy-Cons led the retailer to offer the lower rate. In some other refund cases, Amazon is to have offered a replacement Nintendo Switch (which owners turned down due to lack of stock), then £40 (which some refused as it is less than the cost of replacement controllers) before the retailer offered a £70 refund.

Since even before the console launched, many were complaining about Joy-Con issues, saying that the controllers would suddenly disconnect or would seem to offer “laggy” inputs. Although many hoped that the console’s day one patch would fix the problem, this didn’t work, and many are understandably frustrated that Nintendo was unable to sort out this fairly serious technical issue before the console went on sale.

It’s unclear how many of those requesting a refund have considered Nintendo’s official advice on the matter. The company suggests placing the Switch away from laptops, wireless printers, cordless phones, aquariums, USB thumb drives, TVs, and other household objects as they could cause an interference with the connection. It may be the case that these Switch owners have tried to re-position these objects, but the problem has still prevailed and getting a refund may have been their final option.

Prospective Nintendo Switch owners should be glad to know that Nintendo is investigating the Joy-Con problem. Earlier this week Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime said that the company is on a “fact-finding” mission and is asking players a lot of question to get to the bottom of things. Hopefully Nintendo’s quest for answers will result in a fix soon so that no more Switch players will have to go through the process of getting a refund because their controllers just don’t work as intended.
